It would only be considered a "drivers" car if the driver is a 40 year old housewife (sedan) or a 17 year old high school student (coupe).

I hope I made my point with that, lol it probably wasn't clear.
A new G37 isnt even 40k. Let alone a used G35 selling for 12-14k.

Correct, the base is around $37,000 with the destination charge. But where can you find one on the lot that is barebones. Or even better, since the G incorporates luxury, wouldn't you like to have heated seats, backup camera, NAV, sport wheels or any other little addition? Thus, putting the car around $40,000 if not over. I am just stating that some people pay $60,000 into a car they like but for a couple years later and a few dollars more, you can have what I think is a drivers car. Better yet, buy a used noble M400 for $70,000.

Well since most every one will have a slightly diff definition of "driver's car"....
I consider a driver's car a competent sports car.
That probably brings up more ques than answers...

So I'll just say I LOVE driving my modded G coupe through the canyons
in SoCal and slicing through the gears.
With the windows down of course so I can hear the growl of the exhaust!

I would say no. At times, I hate driving my coupe. I had a corolla that was more comfortable.

Wait a minute, I thought they were saying a driver's car was supposed to be uncomfortable? I'm so confused.

If you say a drivers car should be heavy, under powered, have alot of body roll, and be uncomfortable over long periods of time.... then YES the G35 is the perfect drivers car.

If you look at R&T's test results, most vehicles are slower than a G35 coupe. Most of them handle less well than a G35 coupe. Most have far less HP than a G35 coupe. R&T mostly tests cars that are in some way known for some degree of performance. In other words, most of the cars tested are 'sporty'.

So in order to qualify as a 'driver's car' by your definition you are pretty much left with a few Porsche's, BMWs, exotics, and a handful of ricer hot hatches.

Bottom line: You've proven what is already pretty clear. There is no real definition of "driver's car". Its a trash term.

For me, if it can make me happy and nervous at the same time, then its a driver's car.

Yes those are drivers cars then. The G35 is just an entry level luxury car. It is heavy, has little power and does not handle well stock.

I would only consider sports cars deisged for performance as a "drivers car".

Well, I've got an 06 G35 coupe. Its a 6MT. It has very light 19" forged wheels, stiffer springs and sways than a base coupe and has 298 HP, and yes it is heavy.

Yet, it is faster 0-60 than my partner's Boxter and another partner's Miata, both stock. I'm certain that it cannot corner like the Boxter or the Miata, but not far behind. And as far as body roll, well, no, not severe at all and makes my G35X feel like an old Cadillac by comparison. The X has a very nice ride and handles well but the 6MT coupe handles waaay better. The coupe rides rough, but it is planted and corners well. There is no noticeable understeer, not even when pushed hard. I don't have the guts to invoke oversteer on country roads around here but haven't seen it with pretty aggressive cornering. If you are at 4000 rpm in third gear and stomp it, it will shove you back in your seat and keep you there up through 6000 rpm which is as far as I've been willing to push it in third. You'll be doing about 75mph...in third. From there it is simple and quick to get it in fourth without dropping the rpms below 4000 and be back at max torque (4800) in a heartbeat and will kick you in the pants again there.

Sounds like a driver's car to me.

Everyone on here loves to think their car is more than it is. It is the same on every forum. A stock G35 will not shove you back in your seat. 250 whp on a 3800 lb car is a joke if you are considering performance standards. The G35 is barely faster than a V6 Camry.

I am not saying the G35 cannot be modified to perform. But in its stock form it is slightly higher than an average commuter car in terms of performance.

Drivers cars are cars that are designed for performance, or can be called weekend cars. Just performance machinces not ment to be driven everyday. Porsche 911/GT2/Carrera, BMW M series, MB AMG, Corvette Z06/ZR1, GTR, Caddilac V series, Audi RS4/R8, ect. I could possibly see adding the 350Z/370Z.

PS
I am really sorry for bursting your bubble but the G35 power to weight ratio is like 11.8. The power to weight ratio for a new turbo Sonata is slightly better at 11.53. Plus acouple easy mods (down pipe, tune) it would toast a G35.

True.

Only if you know how to drive it.

In a straight line. So what. Add corners and even a 2012 Camry or Maxima will be left in the dust by a G35 sedan. And the 6MT will leave the G35 sedan in the dust. I know, I have both.

I suspect this is true for most people who do not know how to get at a car's strengths. But that's a talent issue, not an inherent problem of the car's. You CAN drive a G35 coupe like a commuter. And if that is the only way YOU know how to drive, then that's all the G will ever be.

But if you know how to drive it....and where to drive it....you'd never make a comment like that. I think you just showed your hand.

Put the car magazines down and go drive your car.

You just showed your hand again. The differences between an 06 6MT coupe and a base 06 350 Z are negligible.

No bubbles busted. Have you ever looked at the aerodynamic drag on an F1 car? A Kia Sophia is like 100 times more aerodynamically efficient.

Think about it.

I was given a Camry loaner and it was way more comfortable than the G37 loaner. Smoother acceleration and no lag in first gear like the G sedan.

I'm not sure why some people like the lag. Step on it, goes no where. Seconds later, Zoom. lol wtf is that shlt.

It's more noticeable when you first drive the G sedan. You do get use to it after a while.

The G35 Coupe seats aren't too comfortable. Not good for long trips. Therefore, not a driver's car to me.
