Clear Coat on top of Plasti-dip

If I were to add a clear coat or glossy black spray paint on top of 3 layers of plastip.......will it still come off easily???

I appreciate any advice on the matter

The reports are mixed. People who say it comes off also say to make sure the plastidip is fully cured.

I de-plasti'd my grill last night and although it was tedious/time consuming it came off rather easily. I don't think having a coat of paint or clear would affect how the plasti would come off since that's the actual material that's bonded to item you're coating.

I think a member tried it on his car plates and said it works fine as long as you dont apply too much CC and the plastidip has had time to cure fully before applying CC

^

lol kool yaar is correct, be sure not to put too many layers of clear over the PD or else it will be hard to peel

on a similar side note, i was doing some research today on the PlastiDip website (mfr: Performix) and they say one of their products is compatible with PD to make a glossy finish...hold on i will search for it

edit:

I planned on doing some plasti-dip work also but was gonna use it more as a primer... then put three coats paint and a few coats of clear since all your doing is layering on top of the plasti-dip. Just gotta make sure you take your time with the plasti-dip no rushing.

Actually just came across a thread over at myg37 where a guy was complaining about plastidip not coming off easily after applying CC so might be something to keep in mind...

Yea I actually saw that too....I'm kinda hesitant now to do it....just want to somehow make the rear valence black and glossy...

If you want maybe practice on a random piece of something else to see if it peels okay

The trick is to make sure your PD layer is on there *thick* so when you peel it off it'll come off as one piece. A lot of folks (me included, especially my early forays into PD) put it on rather thin and peeling it off usually involves tearing it in the process. It takes a lot of coats to get it there.

The only problem with going thick is, with the parts we typically PD, it's counterintuitive.

i just p-dipped my gril about 5-6 coats let it cure then hit it with about 3 coats of clear coat! looks....HORRIBLE lol, but mainly because of the texture. the bumpy texture that p-dip leaves is even more noticable since its shiny. im going to wet sand the plastadip and spray black gloss paint i think that will look better then the clearcoat imo.
