Auto Econ Control

How come whenever I press my Auto Econ control button, the AC button light always gets highlighted, like the air conditioning is on even if the temp is set to 75. Am I doing something wrong, or am i stuck hitting the AC button every time?

air conditioning doesn't necessarily have to be cold.. AC sends out dry air

just turn AC off nd roll down ur windows.. although that also isn't good for mileage.. wind pulls u back a lil.. having the AC turned on doesn't kill A LOT of fuel.. just a tiny portion of it..

AC always comes on when you hit the Auto button. I have to turn my AC back off after turning on Auto if I want just the fan and vent setting to be automatically controlled. Kind of lame, I agree.

Oh, watch out for when you use the front defroster also. AC helps greatly with defrosting, but then when you turn it back off, the AC is still on.

This spring I started pressing that button twice to get "A/C Economy" that comes up on display. Since air comes out as cold as A/C, I was wondering if it is really more economical and if so, then how? Anybody got any solid info?

when economical is on, it does save more gas as told by my dealer, i believe the refrigerant is not used when ECON is engaged

i've had 3 BMWs and 1 Audi before my G and they all did the same thing. My wife's Acura also does the same thing. When you hit 'auto', it turns the AC on. I used to always turn if off manually but jsut leave it alone now. don't think you're gonna save that much more gas with it off...

It pops on to keep the humidity low so your windows don't fog up. Works nicely.

I thought I read somewhere that the ECON mode for AC just changes how long the AC compressor stays on. In other words, with ECON set to on, the compressor doesn't stay on quite as much meaning it won't be drawing power from the belts which in turns saves the little gas people are mentioning. Just my theory...

OVERDRVE. that makes sense to me. I was just wondering that this morning. I could not tell a difference between econ mode and just the AC on. huh. That's cool. Literally!

the ac economy mode basically tells the car you don't care about the humidity inside the car. When you don't have it in the economy mode and the inside of the car has high humidity, the car cools the air to condense out the moisture then reheats it with the heater to control the cabin temperature.

I knew my HVAC skills would come in handy eventually!
