Exclamation NEED ADVICE : Fastrack Violation in Socal

Hello all,

I live in Irvine in socal. Early February I accidentally passed through a toll booth without knowing near Irvine Blvd. What is most frustrating is that it was $1 toll fee that I missed!!! After the incident occured, I spoke to some of my friends about it and they advised that fastrack allows 1 warning for your first violation. So I figured I'd be alright. Then about 10 days later, a violation notice with a $56 tab got mailed to my house. The worst part is I was actually out of town and did not receive the mail until few days ago but the due date on the ticket has already passed. Now the fine has nearly doubled to $104. FML!!!

I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with violation with fastrak. Is there anyway to fight this?? If so, what is the best way of going about it?? This really sucks b/c it all started with a mistake of passing through a dollar toll booth and now I got stuck w/ $104 ticket up my as$.

Any advice is appreciated. PLEASE HELP!

You're probably out of luck with fighting it. But why not just get a Fastrak for future use? They're free, and so long as your vehicle is properly registered to the account it won't matter if you don't have the device in your car here and there. Should at least future-proof the issue

They say if you are a first time violator, you can have it dismissed.

I believe this only applies to the 8 fastrack roads in the bay area. I don't think this applies to the ones in socal.

Why don't you just ask a friend that has an account to add your vehicle to the account and back date it to the day before the ticket occurred. I had to do the same thing last week. Once it's added and backdated the ticket will disappear and the account will be charged the amount of the missed toll.

So basically you can retroactively register your car under someone else's? Once you register your car under that person's account, do you need to take any further actions to dismiss the violation/ticket? Please explain in detail. Thanks.

Well this is how it went for me. I drove the full length of the 241 twice, which is 3-4 tolls. went through the scanner forgetting my car had not been added to the account, a month later received 6 violations. Had my friend call and add my car and than called back. they said it needs to be back dated to before the first violation, So I called the corona location back(where the account was originated) and asked them to back date which they did and that was it.

I didn't have to call the irvine fastrack back or anything, they said once they update their servers again it would show and clear the violations and charge the missed tolls.

Edit: it was a little over a month after the first violation when i called.

If you call them and say that "you didnt have the money" even if they ask you were clocked going whatever speed. Just say I had no cash. THey then lower the fee to $10. I did this, it is confirmed. if you have no cash, there is no attendant, so they have to have a lower priced option.

Try this, however since it has been so long it may not work. goodluck.

Call and explain the situation and they will most likley have you pay the original toll.

I called them this morning to explain the situation to them. They were able to waive off the violation fee and have me just pay the $1 toll fee.

Thanks for the help guys!
